Introducing the Sophomore Class Dean

Welcome to the Sophomore Year!
I am Alyce Brady, professor of computer science and Dean of the Sophomore Class. Class deans have several responsibilities, including:
You could think of the class deans as specialists in the issues and concerns that arise in a given class year, although the class deans are also familiar with the workings of the College as a whole.
So who am I? Like you, I went to an excellent liberal arts college as an undergraduate (majoring in Math and French). I then worked as a professional computer scientist for several years before going on to graduate school, earning a Ph.D., and coming to K. I am a professor in the computer science program, and have served as the director of that program for about 10 years. As an advisor, I am aware of many of the issues and frustrations students face. In response to two of these issues, I led a team of students in developing the online registration programs that you used last year, and a program to perform graduation audits. These projects have given me a broader view of the responsibilities and needs of K students, which I hope to put to good use as your dean.
You can find my office hours for the current quarter on my weekly schedule, or call to make an appointment (x7065). You can also send me questions, comments, or suggestions at my email address: abrady@kzoo.edu. Finally, you can find more information for sophomores, including copies of all the email messages I send out and a list of campus resources, on the Sophomore Year web page.
I hope you have a great year, and I look forward to working with you!
