FINAL REFLECTIVE PAPER
This is due Thursday of Finals Week

This document was last modified on April 27, 2004.

Paper Outline

For your final exam I would like you to write a paper that reflects on what you have learned and done this quarter. This paper should be grammatically correct (in other words use spell check and grammar check), but does not have to be in the King's English. I want you to write this more as a journal than a formal paper. There is no requirement on length but your paper should cover the following questions/topics.

  1. What are the differences between working with a customer as opposed to programming a teacher-led project? What did you learn from this approach?

  2. What aspects of database design and maintenance did you use in your project? What aspect(s) didn't you use? How did what you learned in this class relate to your project?

  3. How did the group work together? How were decisions made? How did you participate? Should you have done anything differently? What problems did you face and how did you overcome them?

  4. How did this project relate to your future profession? What social or ethical responsibilities were involved in your project? What new insights did you have about your future profession? (If you do not have a copy of the ACM Code of Ethics, come see me for one. You probably should relate the Code to this topic.)

Come see me at any point in the writing process. I will be happy to discuss your ideas with you as a sounding board; to help you with the structure of your paper or to make sure that your ideas are making sense. It might be helpful to create an outline of these topics as you go through the process so that you don't forget any topics that you want to talk about.

Your final projects should be completed by Monday of Finals Week. Your Reflective Paper is due by 10 am on Thursday. I would like to look at your final projects and I would like to schedule a walk through of your final projects on Thursday with Alyce and possibly the registrar. Thursday morning is our scheduled exam time so we will have the walk through at some time that morning (not before 9 am though!).
