Presentation Guide

You will each deliver a video presentation on a topic relevant to this course before the end of the quarter. A set of possible presentation topics is listed on the Class Presentations page. You will be asked to list several possible topics you would be interested in presenting; topic assignments and the exact due date will be announced in the second half of the quarter.

Most presentations should be done in pairs, although a few may be done individually or in groups of three. You should talk to me about the appropriate group size for a particular topic.

Each presentation should include appropriate visual aids (e.g., PowerPoint or HTML). Video presentations should probably be 8 - 15 minutes long, depending on the topic and the number of presenters.

Some other tips to keep in mind as you prepare your presentations:

• Start preparing enough in advance so that you have time to:
  • Find books, articles, or online materials on the topic.
  • Read and understand the material you are presenting well.
  • Plan out what you want to say and organize your presentation.
  • Develop your visual aids (HTML or PowerPoint).
  • Practice your presentation with a friend or roommate.
• In the time you have, you won't be able to present everything about the topic. Choose carefully the points that you want to get across and give yourself time to explain and support those points.
• Remember that you can come ask me for help if you have difficulties at any stage.

The grade for your presentations will be based on:

• content
• structure
• clarity
• supporting materials (e.g., visual aids, code sample)
• bibliography
